Have you ever been to see the York Mystery Plays and imagined how fabulous it would be to perform in them? Well here is an opportunity to do just that.
You are cordially invited to a York Mystery Play Presentation at the Market Weighton Social Club on Thursday 19th April, 7:30pm.
Shiptonthorpe based group, Ravens Morris, have been commissioned by the Merchant Adventurers to stage a 20 minute production of Judgement Day at this year’s York Mystery Plays. They would love Players members to take part in their fabulous carnival version of this medieval Biblical play, one of eleven that will be performed to large cosmopolitan audiences.
The performances will all take place in September 2018:
Four times on two Sunday afternoons (September 9th and 16th), different outdoor locations around York centre
Wed 12th September evening – Shambles Market
A final show is yet to be confirmed in the Merchant Adventurers Hall (provisionally Friday 21st September evening)
There are lots of different ways to get involved for adults and children, friends and family alike:
As a performer: actors, singers, dancers, musicians and puppeteers
As a non – performer: cart pullers, stewards, procession walkers in fantastical attire.
Costume and Construction
Rehearsals will be held locally from June(ish) onwards. They know you’ll likely be on holiday during this period but that’s OK, it won’t prevent you from taking part in any role.
Interested to find out more? Then do come along to the Social Club on Thursday 19th April, 7:30pm when Director Alan Heaven will reveal more in a presentation and happily answer any questions you may have.
Much appreciated if you could let us know if you are planning to come along so there are sufficient information packs and application forms for all. Do contact us if you’d like to be involved but can’t make the presentation, and we’ll make sure you are kept in the loop. Either message on here or email hlawley@live.
Hope to see you there!

Laughter is in the air again as The Market Weighton Community Players start work on their next production.
Over three nights, 26th-28th October, audiences will be able to enjoy two short plays with a fish and chip supper included in the ticket price. Both plays are comedies – “Between Mouthfuls” by Sir Alan Ayckbourn, and “ Last Panto in Little Grimley”
“Between Mouthfuls” is from the highly successful and very funny “Confusions” collection which consists of five short one act plays by the well known playwright from the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough.
“Last Panto in Little Grimley” is David Tristram’s hilarious sequel to his popular play “Last Tango in Little Grimley”.
Rehearsals have now begun and tickets will go on sale to the public in early October. We will post further details in due course.

Please come along to find out more about this dynamic local group and our plans for the future
July 16, 2017
Market Weighton Town Council have very kindly invited us to take part in this year’s Giant Community Day on Sunday 16th July by once again staging a play as Street Theatre in the High Street.
Our very own Val Brogden has risen to the challenge and written a play especially for the event entitled “About Giant Bradley”. This entertaining work is full of local history and is ideal for the occasion.
Our proposal is that the work is a joint production between The Players and Weighton Young Players (WYPs) which of course is a really exciting opportunity.
We are organising a Read Through Evening to be held at 7:30pm on Monday 8th May at The Hub at The Market Weighton School (which is where WYPs meet, just to the right hand side of the School as you drive onto the playground).
If you have any questions, please contact us. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you there!

All things bright and beautiful…….
The MWCP have great pleasure in announcing that The Vicar of Dibley has made it into next year’s line up of shows. The stage production, featuring some very funny scenes from the first two series of the popular TV series, will be performed on four nights at the Market Weighton Social Club from Wed 17th to Sat 20th May 2017.
Check out some of the cast in the photo above, from left to right Cheryl Cutsforth, Nigel Botting, Sam Fuller and Andrew Frankland-Barber: there are no prizes for guessing which characters they’ll be playing!!!!
Whilst the original TV series was written by Richard Curtis and Paul Mayhew-Archer, we’ll be performing the stage adaptation for amateurs by Ian Gower and Paul Carpenter with kind permission of Tiger Aspect Productions. And what great news: all of their £500 performance fees will be donated to Comic Relief.
