Market Weighton Community Players has an active managing committee made up of local people who have an interest in the ongoing success of the society. These volunteers meet regularly to review recent activities and plan future events and productions.
We were very saddened by the closure of Market Weighton Social Club earlier this year, which had become our home over the past few years. However, as always, the show must go on and we found a new temporary home thanks to our friends at Shiptonthorpe Village Hall. We performed Ghost Writer by David Tristram there in July and we have just finished a double bill of Outside The Box and Forty Winks Beauty.
Market Weighton Community Players would like to perform more stage plays and work is ongoing to locate suitable work(s) that would be within our scope of expertise and which would appeal to local audiences. Also of consideration are the availability and cost of local venues both in Market Weighton and the surrounding district. We are also interested in performing productions at other suitable venues especially in the East Riding area. The Contact Form can be used if you have any suggestions.
We are a friendly group and welcome new members of all ages and all abilities. You can register your interest via the “Contact Us” form. A register is held of people interested in taking part in various roles whether on stage, back or front of house or just as a supporter and friend.
We organise a number of social events each year which include visits to local theatres in Hull and York and further afield.
When a new production is planned, normal practice is to contact everyone on our mailing list and to post notices around the town and villages and in the press with an invitation to an open meeting. Details are also posted on our Facebook and Twitter pages. At this meeting, further details are made known and an invitation made for people to register their interest in becoming involved in whichever capacity they choose. The producer may then hold a part reading session for those interested in performing on stage and from which parts can be cast. We are always on the look out for new talent and that doesn’t just mean acting. If you have any skills to help with scenery, costumes and even front of house, then we would be delighted to hear from you.
