A new group in Market Weighton is looking for local young people to take to the stage. “WYPS” (Weighton Young Players) is a new and exciting Community Youth Theatre starting on Tuesday, 4th October and which aims to give young people the opportunity to act and learn all about the theatre.
WYPS will meet each Tuesday at 6:30pm in The Clubhouse at The Market Weighton School, Spring Road, Market Weighton.
Group Leader of WYPS, Karen Todd, said: “We aim to inspire, nurture and train young people in the theatrical arts. In a fun, safe and enjoyable way, we will teach them how to communicate effectively, build their self-confidence and flourish in their acting ability. Anyone aged 8 to 17 years old is welcome to come along to our launch workshop on Tuesday, 4th October. There’s no experience necessary but we do ask you register your interest before attending by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org” or telephoning 01430 861195.
During the year, the group will stage shows to showcase their work and it is proposed that later workshops will include other aspects of the performing arts such as: stage management; sound & lighting; set design & construction.
“It’s brilliant that the launch workshop will be run by the Youth Theatre Company from Theatre Royal, York” WYPS Leader Val Brogden told us, “ This first workshop promises to be an interesting and action packed evening. As our young members develop our volunteer team of trained and experienced leaders we will ensure that individual learning experiences are used to take members of WYPS on a journey of self discovery which will grow the skills and talents of local young people”.
WYPS are contacting all schools in the area but further information can be obtained by emailing: email@example.com or by contacting Karen Todd (07540109406) or Peter Warner (01430 861195).
